Upper Jaw Surgery in Turkey
The upper jaw is a bone formed by the union of the right and left two segments located in the middle of the face.
He has his nose on it. It has very important functions such as nutrition, speech, breathing and olfaction. Correction of deformities in this area is provided by upper jaw surgery.
Disorders of the Upper Jaw Structure
Upper jaw disorders can occur for various reasons. These include finger sucking, traumas passed at an early age, decapitated teeth, infections, congenital abnormalities or developmental delays due to racial characteristics.
The most common disorder in the upper jaw is the lagging of the jaw, that is, underdevelopment and asymmetries. Correction of these can be achieved by upper jaw surgery, that is, by performing orthognathic surgery. Treatment begins with orthodontists inserting wires in order to correct the tooth alignment. Surgery planning is made by evaluating the radiographs and model patterns taken to the patient. Biting plaques are prepared and directed to the surgeon who will perform the operation.
Upper Jaw Surgery Technique
Upper jaw surgery; It starts with an incision made between the upper lip and the upper jaw bone in the mouth. In upper jaw disorders (deformities), the upper jaw bone is cut from the base of the nose, above the tooth roots (osteotomized ) and the toothed bone section of the upper jaw is freed. At this time, the upper jaw bone is held only by the soft palate and is fed by the veins coming from it.
The upper jaw bone segment, which becomes mobile in three dimensions; the planned ideal is fulfilled by placing a previously prepared suitable biting plate and it is determined by means of mini plates (small, stainless alloy perforated metal) and screws in the upper part of the upper jaw in the new position.
The upper jaw bone can be moved forward or backward according to the requirement, as well as operations such as burial, sagging, rotation can be performed. The incision inside the mouth is closed by sewing with melted thread. If there is a significant deviation of the septum (nose) during this operation, it can be corrected, the low tip of the nose can be slightly relieved. In the same way, it can be suspended in soft tissues.
The Healing Process After Upper Jaw Surgery
In patients who have undergone upper jaw surgery, support treatment with serums is performed after surgery, as well as painkillers, antibiotics and treatments to reduce facial swelling. A condition that requires the patient to stay in intensive care is very rare. Nutrition begins with juicy foods on the same day. After the patient’s general condition improves, usually 2-4 days after the operation, the lower and upper jaw teeth are fixed to each other with tires and the mouth is closed for 1-3 weeks. This makes bone healing safer.
