Dipper Ear Aesthetics

The most common aesthetic problem we see in the ear is scoop ear disorder. The main problem here is the weakness of the cartilage. As a result of this weakness, folds in the ear do not form and open to the side.

Scooped ear is a congenital disorder, so the most common group of patients are school-age children. During this period, children may be subjected to ridicule, and this situation significantly affects their school achievements and relationships. For this reason, the most appropriate time for surgery is around the age of 6 (before starting school). But bucket ear surgeries can also be performed during adulthood.

Bucket Ear Surgery

Scoop ear surgery can be performed with local or general anesthesia. According to the deformity of the ear, various techniques can be used. Only if there is flattening and lateral opening in the cartilage, this disorder can be corrected with suture techniques after the incision made from the back. However, sometimes in addition to these, the deepest part of the outer ear (the part we call the turbinate) can be very October. In this case, only the suture technique is not enough, it may be necessary to shrink by removing a part from that area, but then a disorder due to cartilage weakening may develop. In order to prevent this, an incision is made here, the part we call the turbinate is divided into two and the parts are shifted on top of each other without being removed. For this reason, aside from weakening the cartilage, it actually becomes stronger.

After the surgery, you need to wear a band called athlete’s band for at least 3 weeks, the mark is not visible because it remains behind the ear. This operation is relatively easy, but it is an operation that has a great impact on patients. Doing it at a child’s age gives better results, but it can also be done easily in adulthood.
